18th Century Oak Ships Spirit Barrel From Hms Royal George

A fascinating item of historical interest from the 18th century.
 
This  museum quality oak and iron bound ship’s rum or brandy barrel was salvaged from the HMS Royal George.
 
An ivory or bone plaque on the front of the barrel reads “SALVAGED FROM HMS ROYAL GEORGE WHICH CAPSIZED AND SUNK AT SPITHEAD IN 1782 WITH THE LOSS OF 900 LIVES”.
 
The Royal George was the largest ship in the world when she sank and it is very well documented.
 
N.B. a simple basic stand has been made for display purposes and it is included with this item.
