FAQs

Victorian console tables emerged during the 19th century as functional and decorative furniture pieces designed to sit against hallway or parlour walls, often reflecting shifting revivalist architectural tastes of the era.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany or walnut, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints, turned supports, and polished French polish finishes applied by cabinet makers.

Authenticity is verified by examining timber shrinkage, hand-forged or early machine screws, traditional joinery methods, and the natural patina of the wood developed over decades.

An antique console table provides a functional surface in a modern hallway or living room, pairing well with contemporary mirrors, minimal lamps, or sculptural ceramics to balance old and new elements.

Preservation requires keeping the timber away from direct sunlight and heat sources, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying appropriate microcrystalline wax to maintain the finish.
