Antique Sailors Shell Work Valentine, Double Octagon, To one I Love, 24 cm square.

This lovely example In Folding octagonal Mahogany framed case The hinged octagonal case opens to double shell arrangements, one side centering a heart shape , the other with motto. These were made in the Caribean predominently Barbados and were purchased by sailors before their final journey home and given to there loved ones on their return.

Circa 1850 to 1890

Contains scarce purple shells, five flowers and rare rams horn shells
