Description:
This is a fine quality antique English Victorian solid oak panelled butlers’ drinks tray and stand, circa 1870, in excellent condition. Butlers tray was used both on grand tours, campaigns, but also in wealthy houses for serving drinks. To the perimeter of the four-panelled tray is a folding oval gallery. The folding gallery sides retain the original brass hinges and also feature open carrying handles. The four-hinged sides can be raised to stop drinks sliding off the tray but also folded down to make a side table (and also allow it to be stored level when not in use). The tray sits on its original solid oak folding stand. The stand has a connecting stretcher below for additional strength.
Condition Report:
Nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant, considering the age of the item. The tray and stand have been French polished by hand in our workshop, to a professional standard. There are no splits, damage or ring marks to the top. The level of detail and craftsmanship displayed is second to none. The tray retains its original brass hinges to the gallery sides. The wooden tray and stand are both sturdy. The stand has been re-webbed at some point in the past, for safety reasons. This item is solid in joint and ready to use.
