Description

This is a very fine quality and heavy draught/dressing screen with highly detailed embossed leather on a hardwood frame. At the base are naked figures holding a flowering stem to a flamed torchere above which are mythological birds and grotesque masks. Baronial in style and possibly of continental origins, the polychromed decoration is surrounded by brass studded ribbons of a scrolled design. The back is simply embossed with no colouring. These screens usually suffer a good deal of fading and tears but not this one. the overall condition is superb and vibrant. One of the best that we have handled.
