Description

This is a really charming early Victorian tinsel picture in nice original condition dating from around 1840. The picture depicts the actor Mr Glynn as “Richard Cauer de Lion“ or Richard the Lionheart. The hand coloured print is beautifully embellished with foil and metal enamels and cut out collage detail. This is from the Hopes series of these collectors items numbered 60 in the set and signed in pencil to the mount.

These antique tinsel pictures were popular in the early 19th century but are becoming increasingly hard to find now. This is a really good example and one of 18 of these we have recently acquired from a good collection. This is a really good example with a great subject framed in a plain black hardwood frame.

The frame measures 40 cms by 34 cms.
