A Late 19thc London Made Telescope

Description

A late 19thC three draw telescope by Pastorelli and Rapkin of Hatton Garden London. Focusses well with a clear image. Probably made for military or naval use but equally able to view the moon and its craters in detail (fills 50% of the lens). The makers name is inscribed on the focussing tube. (Active 1872-1900 61/46 Hatton Garden and 7 Gt warner St pictures of shop on Google) The eyepiece has a sliding dust cover and the object lens a pull out ray shade. The lenses are not cracked but have minor spotting which is not apparent at all when viewing through the telescope. There is a little movement in the tubes through use over the years but not enough in my view for any concern. There are also minor dents and scratches but again through general use. The leather covering the main tube is mellow and of a lovely colour. The leather lens caps and strap are unfortunately missing but a well made mahogany display stand is included.

78 cm long fully extended. 25.3 fully closed. max dia 5 cm Objective lens approx. 4.5 cm Eye piece 4cm dia. The stand measures 36.5 cm by 13 cm.
