Description

Made by William Wray of London. Circa 1890 or earlier.A very large telescope Naval/Military extending to 102.5 cm max. Four drawer with additional shade tube and PANCRATIC eye tube enabling magnification from 30 to 40 times. Interesting brass and mahogany display stand which can be used to position the scope for Astronomical viewing.

The telescope pulls out firmly and focusses well. The lenses have no damage but a little spotting. The object lens is approximately 6.5 cm in diameter. Some minor mini dents to the tubes and wear to the leather sleeve around the main tube where the cover has been put on and off many times.

This telescope of the sort which might have been used in the Boer war.

William Wray is described as an eminent maker who established himself in Commercial Road East London in 1851. He was especially well known for making excellent lenses, astronomical telescopes and later binoculars for the armed forces.
