Antique Figural Black Forest Double Postage Stamp Box - Dog with Glass Eyes

Description

A beautifully executed hand-carved double postage stamp box in the form of a dogs head and dating to around 1890, Victorian in era.

This adorable canine retains his two original amber glass eyes, both in great shape.

The hinged lid opens to reveal a double compartment stamp box, unusual as most of these I have ever come across are usually inkwells.

In front of the two compartments RIGI is impressed into the wood, so this would originally have been purchased as a souvenir at Mount Rigi in the centre of Switzerland.

Excellent condition measuring 3" x 3" x 3".
