Description

An antique treen knitting sheath from Cumbria.

This knitting sheath is dated 1743 which is an early date for a knitting sheath, very few can be found dating back this early.

The shaft is square in section terminating in a ball to one end and to the other end there is a loop with one piece of a chain and a ball cage.

Decorated throughout with incised triangles.

One of the pillars at the back has been repaired/replaced.

A really lovely example of cumbrian folk art.

It measures 17cm l x 1cm w x 1cm d.
