ANTIQUE #SA697017

Naive Victorian Rocking Horse

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: witchantiques.com

A most interesting and rare rocking horse that appears to be homemade and an attempt to copy an 18th Century horse portrait. Hence the small head and large body. The actual construction of the horse and stand is very good and make us think that this is an honest attempt by a Victorian carpenter or similar. Certainly it has been well used with a stubble for a main and tail being all that is left. The saddle is later but the stirrups look original. The horse and stand actually have a good patina. Primitive yes, but this horse has been well loved and been to a lot of races.
