Description

This is a wonderful antique Indian painting dating from around 1880. The painting shows courtly ladies feeding and releasing doves from a rooftop terrace. The colours are quite lovely, painted in rich gouache which is beautifully heightened with gilt, particularly to the ornate fountains which are ever so slightly raised in relief and have a beautiful hand gilded finish. The borders are a true delight with millefiori designs against a bold black ground giving a lovely impact and framing the scene beautifully.

The work has been beautifully framed in a complimentary antique gilt frame of pleasing plain design.

The painting is a good size, measuring 56 cms by 43 cms overall including the frame and is in excellent condition.
