Description

A good quality boxed Ebony and Boxwood weighted STAUNTON CHESS SET.

The green signature label inside the lid, together with the design of the Knights and the crown marks on the Rooks indicate this set is dated between 1920-1930. The King stands at 3.5 inches tall and ‘Jaques London’ is stamped on the upper rim of the base.

This set is weighted, for the ‘professional’ chess player – and each piece has a green baize base.

The mahogany case with hinged lid is in excellent condition and each compartment is lined with green baize.

Staunton Chessmen were adopted by all the leading chess players of the day. Jaques & Son sole manufacturers: 102 Hatton Garden.
