A good 19th century artillery officer''s sword manufactured by Wilkinson Sword Ltd Pall Mall London. No 27415 proofed in July 1886. Purchased in person from the company by J.W. Matthews Esq.(Sword Monogrammed) He was a former pupil of Cheltenham college, school house, private boarding houses, leaving school in 1884. He joined the British Army in 1886 in which he rose to the rank of Captain in the Royal Garrison Artillery, The R.G.A served on the Western front. WW1 on the Somme, and elsewhere, serving the heaviest guns and Howitzers in use at that time. stw 2049 Berrington Antiques.
