Rare Georgian Map Sampler Of Europe

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine and rare eighteenth century map sampler of Europe. The sampler is worked in silks on linen, in various colours. There are some great details with random cities picked out and named, and some areas of geography more accurate than others. The sampler is named and dated: Elizabeth Sophia De Virme 1783. The sampler is in excellent condition with no holes or losses, some colours have faded more than others which is typical of samplers of this age. The work is framed in a period bird''s eye maple frame of great figuring and colour, it does have some painted repairs but the look overall is great. A wonderful early example of a sampler of this type.

Overall sizes in inches, including frame: 23 by 24 3/4
