Description

Emanuel Bowen (1694–1767) was an English mapmaker and engraver who worked for George II of England and Louis XV of France as a geographer. Working in London from about 1714 he produced some of the finest and most accurate maps of the 18th century. This very decorative old map "The West Riding of Yorkshire" by Bowen was published and sold by "I.Tinney, London 1753". It is extensively inscribed with information relating to industry and commerce in the Yorkshire towns and cities and in one corner has an engraving of Leeds. The map is unframed, measures 21"x 28" and has original outline colour.
