Original Antique Welsh Treen Lovespoon, Dated 1829

Description

Rare and original Welsh lovespoon with an unusually boldly-shaped profile, the large bowl having a handle with chip-carved edging and an inscription under glass, and surmounted with a pierced heart.

Good untouched colour and surface. West Wales, dated 1829

The insription reads:

"I J

1829"

Lovespoons were traditionally made by young men in rural Wales, to be presented to their sweethearts, and were kept through the generations as heirlooms.

Length: 8.5 inches; 21.5 cms

Width of bowl: 2 inches; 5 cms.

Maximum Depth: 1.5 inches; 4 cms.
