Description

A beautiful chessboard, dating from the early part of the 20th century, and an exquisite example of English cabinetmaking. It is comprised of an outer frame of mahogany and an ebony stringing line, enclosing sixty-four squares — probably in boxwood and fruitwood — with each square measuring 38mm x 38mm. It is in totally untouched original condition with the richest warmest glowing colour imaginable. There is no warping; the whole board is true and flat which, for something well over 100yrs is rare! This wonderful chessboard, c.1910, is ready to be used, or just to have as an eye catching home accessory gracing any table in the home.
