A fine example of a Georgian wine cooler or cellarette, in mahogany. The cellarette stands on straight tapered legs with the original brass castors. The main body of the wine cooler has a reeded base with a sarcophagus shape. There are the most amazing large gilded lion mask handles on all four sides. The interior is lead lined to hold ice and wine bottles. The whole is in excellent untouched country house condition with a wonderful original colour and patina. There is some very slight degrading to the lead lining and to use as a wine cooler today would need some other liner added. The wine cooler is a wonderful piece of Georgian English country house furniture adding great period impact to any room interior. C.1800.
