George II Sampler Dated 1742

Description

An excellent quality early/mid 18th century George II period SAMPLER in fine condition, worked in coloured silks on a ground of linen, with an alphabet and the Lord's Prayer and floral and geometric designs.

Signed: "JANE MARKHAM, being 13 years of age in the Year of Our Lord: 1742." 15.25 x 8.25ins (38.5x20.8cms) including the frame.

***Early/mid 18th century samplers in good condition are quite rare. This example is beautifully and very finely sewn by a 13-year-old girl; no social media or television to wile away the evenings in those days!
