Georgian Needlework Of A Muse By Shakespeare's Tomb

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A fine Georgian silk needlework. The subject is an unusual one and very Neoclassical in tone, it shows a Goddess or Muse laying a garland of flowers at Shakespeare''s tomb. The figure most likely represents one of the Muses responsible for drama or epic poetry. The needlework is in amazingly good condition, there is no damage at all and the colours are bright and fresh. The whole is also mounted in the the original frame and painted glass. The whole has a great period look and is a wonderful example of its type. C.1800.

Overall sizes in inches, including frame: 17 3/4 by 21 3/4
