Very rare antique 19th century Gilbert islands club/sword, c 1870. The handle and inner shaft are made from Coconut wood and this is covered in Stingray skin, with a stingray barb on the shaft and was used traditionally by Kirbati warriors.I approached an expert in Oceanic antiques and have an email from him confirming authenticity of the piece. It has aged well with great rich colour/patina. Overall condition is good with only minor surface wear / rubbing. Please refer to the detailed photographs and feel free to contact me with any questions or if you would like to view the item.
A rare and unusual tribal antique which would grace any collection.
Size: 80 cm long x 4 cm wide. I will happily ship worldwide.
