Highly Decorative English Pierced or Reticulated Inkstand / Inkwell

Description

A wonderful Victorian heavy cast brass inkwell, a wonderful shape and a decorative centrepiece to enhance the best of desk-tops.

The base is beautifully pierced or reticulated with a cast brass face to either end acting as handles. The base stands on it's four original cast feet.

The inkwell unusually comes apart from the base, usually these are bolted together; this one however sits tightly into the base but allows it to be removed presumably for the butler or housekeeper to take away for filling the ink into the china liner.

Either side of the inkwell is a wonderful cast gargoyle, very Victorian and Gothic.

Dating to around 1870, this stunning piece remains in excellent condition measuring 11" wide x 5 3/4" deep x 6" tall to top of inkwell lid finial.
