Antique Victorian Tinsel Picture St. Andrew and the Winged Serpent

Description

This is a really charming early Victorian tinsel picture in quite remarkable original condition, dating from around 1840. The picture depicts St. Andrew on horseback, sword raised, ready to strike the winged serpent. The print is embellished with colourful fabric pieces, feathers, silver gilt cabling and sequins.

These antique tinsel pictures were popular in the early 19th century but are becoming increasingly hard to find now. This is a really good example with a great subject and it is in its original rosewood frame which is also in super order. The frame measures 36 cms by 32 cms.
