Masons Antiques has dated this piece to the Victorian era.
It is fitted with a working lock and key.
On opening these doors, a lift up lever is revealed that opens a tray to the base in which is held further games items including 2 sets of cards, cribbage boards, and 5 white and 3 black dices.
Everything about this tantalis is original with no replacement or substitute pieces and is a credit to it's former owner. It is beautifully French-polished and all of the brassware is in excellent order.
A pleasure to see something in such beautiful, original condition.
