A stunning miniature boxwood carving by the famed Italian carver Giuseppe Maria Bonzanigo (1745-1820). The carving depicts a winged Cupid holding a torch and surrounded by a wreath of flowers, the detail in miniature is astonishing down to leaves blowing off the wreath. The work appears to have been carved and then applied to a two inch coin of ebony. The mount and frame are all original and in keeping with other examples of his work. A very rare item by a highly sort after Italian master of carving. The inscription on the reverse gives the name. The whole is in good condition for the age.
