Puckerings has dated this piece to the 1870s.
This was a "Reward" presented by the Department of Science And Art to successful students of this government run body which functioned from 1853 to 1899, promoting education in art, science, technology and design in Britain and Ireland.
It was made by Charles Roberson & Co.
In the centre of the label the royal VR is printed for Victoria Regina.
The paint blocks are all original (one cracked) and each marked Roberson too as is the ceramic pallet which sits underneath the removable tray, the pallet is without damage .. quite superb.
The wood is in excellent condition and impressed on the lid with "Department of Science & Art" and in the centre "Reward" below a crown.
Excellent condition measuring 9" x 3 1/2" x 1 3/4" high.
