Description:
This is an exhibition quality antique English William IV rosewood & brass rosewood and brass adjustable duet music stand, circa 1835, in excellent original condition. The music stand features twin book rest panels, boasting shaped rosewood struts with brass detail together in the shape of a lyre, and brass page holders. The book rests fold out to support papers on either side. The stand is designed either for single use or for a pair of musicians playing a duet. The fold-out book rests are held in place independently, using hinged arms secured by a ratchet on either side. The ratchets allow the angle of either book stand to be adjusted according to the user’s preference. The panels fold flat for storage and transportation. Below, the stand features a turned column support and includes the original brass height adjustment mechanism. Loosening the brass knob at the top of the wooden column, raising or lowering the top to the desired height, then tightening the knob can adjust the height. The stand rests on a triform base, terminating on its original bun feet.

Dimensions:
Maximum raised external height = 148cm or 58¼” or 4ft 10¼”
Lowered external height = 120.5cm or 47½” or 3ft 11½”
External width/depth = 44cm or 17?” or 1ft 5?”
External depth (with book stands fully open) = 56.7cm or 22?” or 1ft 10?”

Condition Report:
The stand is in excellent original condition. Nominal old use marks to the leading edges but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The book rests are completely original, retaining all their brass book holders, and there are no missing struts. The stand boasts the original working brass height adjustment mechanism. The column and base are solid and the feet are original. The stand has a lovely warm colour and patination. This music stand is well constructed, solid in joint, sits firm on the ground and is ready to use.
