Superb Victorian Desk Set in Presentation Case

A superb quality Victorian desk set in original an magnificent case. The set is probably in brass that looks like it is gilded. The style of the piece is very much the period of the Roman or Etruscan revival in design. The separate pieces are all marked; 'M.SCH' probably indicating a continental manufacture though they do also have a kite design registration mark. The set consists of a pair of candlesticks, inkwell and pen tray all are in very good used condition. The set are remarkably still in the original leather case with velvet and silk lining, this shows that the set were retailed by 'Howell James and Co' of Regent street who were jewellers and silversmiths to the Royal family. A fine and unusual set. C.1880.
