A fine and rare late Georgian period fruitwood treen candle stand. The candle stand is in fruitwood probably apple or pear. The base is turned and attaches to a baluster stem which has a telescopic rise and fall facility. The dish top is where the candlestick would stand and the rise and fall was to keep the light at a constant level. The candle stand has a great colour and original patina, there is a slight repair to the base where it has been broken and been re-stuck but it not very visible. The is a very unusual and rare period item. C.1820.
