Mid-eighteenth Century Three Draw Pasteboard Telescope

Description

A mid-eighteenth century three draw pasteboard telescope likely to be of Italian manufacture.

This rare and early instrument is entirely made from pasteboard for the barrel and the draw construction with turned horn ferrules to the end of each piece. The eyepiece and the objective end each have a thread to accept a protective cap for safety in transit although the objective end cap is likely a later replacement.

The barrel has an inch and a half diameter and is 34cms closed and 90cm fully extended. The objective glass diameter measures three quarters of an inch.
