Antique French 19th Century Wool Kashmir Style Shawl from Lyons, the French Equivalent of Paisley

Description

A beautiful 19th century wool jacquard-woven shawl, dating from around 1850-70.

Inspired by the fashion of Indian Kashmir shawls, the weaving industry in European texile centres such as Paisley and Lyons produced similar looking models on the newly invented jacquard looms.

Our shawl is a French one from Lyons.

The shawl measures 180 x 180 cm. It might make a lovely bed spread, for instance.

Its colours are as very fresh as if the shawl had been woven yesterday. and there are there is no moth damage. There are two tears on the borders and an few repairs around the edges. I've documented this on the photos. Apart from that, condition is lovely.
