Description

An antique, authentic, ritually used maskfromthe Ibibio tribe in Nigeria. A mask danced during the Ekpo masquerade, this piece clearlywascarved to poke fun at white colonials, here portrayed with a striking kiss curl.

Whilst supposedly caricatural, the mask has a rare elegance to it and is beautifully carved. First half of the 20th century, wood with several layers of paint.with some wear.
