Description

These TWO GEORGIAN SAMPLERS, worked by the same young hand, two years apart, have remained together for nearly 200 years.

Both bear the name of MARY HARRISON; the smaller sampler worked when she was 7 years old in 1822 and the larger one worked in 1824 when she was 9.

Her earlier work, set within a border of acorns, features numbers and alphabets and various animals and birds. It measures approximately 17 inches (44 cm) by 14 inches (33 cm).

The later piece, worked on a finer canvas, features a verse entitled 'Virtues'. Above this are small angels and, beneath, a fine house and a characterful cow, all set within an intricate, floral border. It measures approximately 20.75 inches (51.5 cm) by 15.75 inches (40 cm).

Both SAMPLERS are in good condition. There are a few knocks and scuffs to the frames.
