Highly Decorative Japanese Shibayama Style Framed Panel

1900 - 1920
Description

As part of our Japanese works of art collection we are delighted to offer this lovely quality and highly decorative Shibayama style panel from the latter part of the Meiji period , circa 1900 , the finely grained softwood panel has been extensively onlaid with numerous pieces of stained and lacquered bone and ivory to form this natural scene of Birds amidst Flora , in the foreground stands a large Bird gazing upwards to see a group of three Sparrows, two of whom appear to be squabbling, the remainder of the panel is predominantly decorated with multi colour seed pods, Poppies and other native species , the artist has signed the panel "Ryuko No" in a metal seal to the lower section, the panel has been fitted into an incredibly heavy and high quality European style frame, undoubtedly at the time of its sale in the early 20th c , the frame is constructed of solid oak backboards with hanging lugs fitted, the outer frame is made of brass and has been hand screwed to the oak boards to great effect , bears an old Maples depository label to the rear , a highly decorative panel that would liven up any wall or room setting.

The condition is great , it has been lightly cleaned and is ready to hang !
