The William IV period spans from approximately 1830 to 1837, bridging late Regency and early Victorian aesthetics, characterised by robust proportions, classical influences, and heavy carved scrollwork.

Cabinet makers of this era predominantly utilised solid mahogany and mahogany veneers, often sourced from Honduras or Cuba, complemented by secondary timbers such as oak or pine for interior framing.

Authentic pieces typically feature heavy central pedestals with vigorous scrolling brackets, turned and reeded legs with brass castors, hand-cut dovetails where applicable, and natural timber oxidisation beneath the top leaves.

Balancing historical gravitas with modern context can be achieved by pairing the dark wood tones with minimalist upholstered dining chairs, streamlined lighting fixtures, and neutral interior wall palettes.

Preservation requires regular dusting with a soft, dry cloth, avoiding direct sunlight and extreme humidity fluctuations, and periodically applying quality beeswax to nourish the polished wood grain.
