The Antique Partnership has dated this piece to the 19th Century.
The two sections clip together with a brass Taylors Patent spring clip. Lower down it is secured with a simple iron hook. The upper section has a brass fitting with an iron eye which locates in it. This when detached can be used as a tool to release the central spring clip.

The whole piece is strong and can be used. There is minor evidence of old long dead worm in a small section of the top most outer area of the pole.
287.5 cms long and 6.75 cms in diameter.
When in ladder form it is 27 cms wide
