Rare Late Georgian Tipstaff In Original Box

Status: This item has been sold
Sold by: Prometheus Antiques

A very rare late Georgian tipstaff still in the original presentation box. The box is of typical Regency form with a slight dome top and is in bur walnut with boxwood edging, it has a brass applique of the coat of arms of Great Britain and Ireland. The box is in excellent condition with a good patina and colour and working key. The tipstaff is a most interesting example, it is quite small with a wonderful burwood handle, typical cast crown top, although a very good quality casting. The tipstaff is interestingly engraved ''Parish of St Martin in the fields No7'' making the staff made for a London parish and therefore most likely London made. The tipstaff itself is a very interesting, rare and desirable object but to have it in the original box is quite simply unique. C.1820.
