We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A dummy board, often referred to as a silent companion, is a flat wooden figure cut out and painted in a realistic or trompe loeil style. Originating in 17th-century Europe, these life-sized or scaled figures were placed in residences to decorate hearths, corners, and hallways.

Traditional dummy boards were constructed from solid pine, oak, or deal boards, which were shaped using hand saws, bevelled along the rear edges, and coated with gesso before being finished in oil paints.

Authentic pieces display hand-cut bevelled edges along the reverse, age-appropriate craquelure in the oil paint surface, and evidence of hand-forged nails or early joinery on the supporting timber plinths.

A dummy board can be positioned beside a fireplace hearth, placed in an empty hallway nook, or styled atop a sideboard to introduce historical visual texture to contemporary spaces.

Dust the surface gently with a dry microfibre cloth or a soft-bristled brush, avoiding water or chemical solvents that could dissolve or strip original oil paint pigments.
