Firstly let me say that the metal stand is not as old as the jar.

We really don't know if this jar was designed for water or oil or wine. Or even where it was made . We only know that it is very attractive as a garden feature and is without any restoration , chips or cracks. It is well weathered as may be seen from the pictures.
