Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Antique mahogany dining tables often feature extension mechanisms designed to accommodate additional leaves, supported by sturdy turned or tapered legs fitted with brass castors. Popularised during the Georgian and Victorian eras, these tables provided flexibility for grand dining rooms during formal entertainments.

These tables typically feature solid mahogany or rich mahogany veneers mounted over pine or oak framing, incorporating timber telescopic slides or brass winding mechanisms. The legs frequently terminate in brass cup castors to allow smooth re-positioning across carpeted floors.

Authentic period pieces generally display age-appropriate wear on the extension runners, original brass fittings, and hand-planed marks on the undersides. Furthermore, genuine leaves often show matching timber grain continuity and consistent patination aligned with the main tabletop.

Balance the deep timber tones of mahogany by surrounding the table with contemporary upholstered dining chairs in neutral linen or velvet. Pair the table with minimalist tableware and clean architectural lighting to create a refined contrast between classic joinery and modern design.

Dust the surface regularly with a soft, lint-free cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice yearly to maintain the lustre. Protect the timber from direct heat, liquid spills, and prolonged sunlight exposure using felt-backed table pads and coasters.
