This is a superb quality antique French needlework hand stitched petit point tapestry in a Rosewood frame, circa 1870, in good original condition. The tapestry depicts a humorous domestic scene, in which a young boy has to help his grandma with her knitting, while the child’s friends have come calling and want him to come out and play instead. The tapestry, which shows superb craftsmanship and quality, with superb vibrant colours, is completely original. The tapestry is mounted in a rosewood frame, with gilt beading, which boasts a lovely grain configuration and colour. Please note the frame has never had glass covering the tapestry.
Condition Report:
The wool tapestry is in good original condition. The colours are still vibrant and have not faded. There is slight wear to the bottom of tapestry in the left and right hand corner (see photos), but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The rosewood frame is in good condition, with nominal old use marks to the leading edges. Please note there has never any glass in front of the tapestry. The frame incorporates a hanging wire and it is ready to be hung.
