17th Century Carved Oak Rocking Cradle

Description

An absolutely charming ~ and very rare ~ late 17th century carved oak ROCKING CRADLE in splendid original condition.

Probably made for a very well-to-do child as a 'working toy' this beautiful cradle is carved to the sides and ends, with four turned finals to each corner, and it is set upon rockers to both ends. Remarkably, it is carved with the date (1685) and the initials "EB" at the foot. 20ins (50cms) long.

***It is rare that we are involved with early oak furniture, but such is the charm of this unusual and DATED piece that it just could not be resisted!
