Antique Victorian Serpentine Viewing Column

Description

A quality antique serpentine viewing pedastal/column, from the mid-victorian period. This classically shaped column is made from solid serpentine, the darkest and hardest of all the serpentine stone. It was highly sought after by sculptors due to it's durability. The name serpentine derives from a likeness to the characteristics of a serpent's skin. The top platform turns so you can view the item displayed on top. The antique column has been damaged a log time ago, but has been expertly restored. A good decorative antique piece.

Dimensions: 110cm high. 33cm across top.
