Antique Treen Massage Ball

Description

An interesting boxwood massage ball, illustrated in Pinto plate 6, known as a Chinese massage ball. The interesting thing was how was it made?

Pinto suggests that the ball is made separately to the block which is undercut and swollen with moisture, the ball is smoothed and dried and then inserted into the block. As both dry out sufficient space remains for the ball to revolve.

It measures 5.5cm w x 4cm h.
