A rare and exceptional, large 16th century coffer front, carved in Oak. Thought to be Dutch. Depicting Queen Esther in the left panel and King Solomon in the right. The inscription above the left panel reads: Esther in Israel leads the King to the advent dinner. The right panel reads: King Solomon deals justice to two women. The text is written in Middle High German. The quality of the carving and the sense of perspective it achieves is superb. The piece was undoubtedly made for an important house of the period. 200cm long 64cm wide
