Large Tournament Size English Chess Set

Description

A large (Tournament size) boxwood and ebony CHESS SET in wonderful undamaged condition.

Broadly of Staunton design, but with slight differences, (notably the bishops without mitres) this mid-19th century chess set really is large! Every piece is weighted and all retain their original navy-blue felt bases, whilst the kings measure between 4.25-4.5 ins high (11cms). It comes within its particularly good mahogany and rosewood inlaid box, which may be original (?) and which has its original working lock and key. A good large set.
