Napoleonic Naval Officers’ Sword C.1800

Description

A rare and unusual naval officers’ sidearm, dating from the Napoleonic era, circa 1800. This sword, most likely once carried by a British midshipman, has a 61cm curved blade with a clipped point. The stunning brass hilt has a cast lions head pommel and shield shaped langets towards the blade. The grip is bound in fine silver wire which is the original. The blade has some historic pitting which has given it a nice grey antique patina. Sadly the scabbard has not survived the last two centuries but the sword itself is in fine condition for a piece if this age.
