The tapestry depicts a crowded Roman palace, hosting an animal sacrifice; some of the characters are looking away, whilst there are children reading, with another subject holding a lamb ready to be slaughtered. The tapestry, which shows superb craftsmanship and quality, with superb vibrant colours and good emphasis between light and shade, is completely original. The tapestry is mounted in a glass fronted floral gilt gesso gilt wood frame for protection and preservation.

Condition Report:

The wool tapestry is in excellent original condition, with no signs of degradation or damage to the stitched coloured wool. The colours are still vibrant and have not faded having been housed in a glass-fronted frame. The glass frame is intact, with no cracks or damage. The glass fronted floral gesso gilt wood frame is also in very good condition, with nominal old use marks to the leading edges, but nothing significant considering the age of the item. The frame retains the original hanging chain and it is ready to be hung.
