Description

Large ,rare and unusual 19th century carved Ox bone money box. It has beautiful scrimshaw decoration to the body which includes a masted ship, a sailfish, cross ,compass points. Each end has brass caps which are inscribed. One end reads 'AS 13 April 1890 Fulham London' and the other 'Tempus Fugit'. The colour is lovely with great aged patina. Condition is good commensurate with age and use with just very minor surface wear and one small screw missing. This is a very rare and unusual item and is most likely a maritime piece - most probably 'A S' was a sailor or received it as a gift from a sailor?

Dimensions: 25 cm long x 8 cm wide x 6 cm deep.
